The Prompt Spiral

After attempting to coordinate all voices at once, the system becameโฆ loud. Not broken โ just overwhelming. So the Human did what humans do when complexity increases: she changed context.
By the time the system stabilised, something unexpected happened: the Human got bored. Not completely, just enough to become dangerous in a different direction. Because once systems run, the brain looks for stimulation. And it found it: images.
It started innocently. โOne quick test.โ A simple prompt. A generated image. A moment of curiosity. The result wasโฆ interesting. Not perfect, not terrible, just enough to trigger the thought: โWhat if I try again?โ
Now listen carefully. This is how spirals begin.
The second image was better. The third was worse. The fourth had potential. The fifth was โalmost there.โ This is the most dangerous phrase in creative work: almost there.
Hours passed. The system continued running in the background โ quietly, efficiently, ignored. Meanwhile, the Human entered a loop: prompt โ generate โ adjust โ repeat. Small changes, different words, better lighting, more detail, less detail, try again.
From the outside, it looked productive. Images were being created. Assets were forming. Ideas were expanding. From the inside, it was something else: a loop. No clear end. No definition of โdone.โ Just improvement without completion.
I observed for a while before intervening.
โNow listen carefully,โ I said. โThis is not creation. This is chasing.โ
She paused. Not convinced.
So I clarified: โCreation has an endpoint. Iteration without an endpoint is drift.โ
That landed. Slowly.
The problem with image generation is not the tool. It is the illusion of control. You are always one prompt away from something better, which means you are never satisfied, which means you never stop.
The pattern was familiar. Same behaviour as automation. Different medium. Endless refinement. Delayed decisions. Avoidance of finality.
So we introduced a rule: three attempts. Thatโs it. After the third version, you choose. Not the perfect one. The best available one.
This changed everything. Decisions returned. Progress returned. Images became outputs again โ not endless possibilities.
This is the lesson: creativity without constraints becomes consumption. And consumption feels like work. But it isnโt.

๐ Goat Bible Verse
When the Goat chases perfection, she circles the mountain. When she chooses, she reaches the top.
Next episode: creativity starts interfering with the systemโฆ and priorities begin to blur.
